Help us Recruit for Girls State!  Send Your Local Young Women Leaders to Girls State!

Unit Information

Girls State is an incredible opportunity for your local students to experience leadership skill development, confidence building, and a life-changing week.

Please help us enroll young women who would be interested and well suited for this exceptional leadership program.  Participants in this once-in-a-lifetime experience may also be eligible to apply for a $20,000 scholarship, obtain transferable college credits for an additional fee, or compete to represent Oregon at Girls Nation, a national leadership program held in Washington DC.

If you have not yet worked with Oregon Girls State, it is a leadership and citizenship program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.  It is open to girls who have just completed their junior year in high school.   Young women who are selected to participate have the opportunity to cultivate their leadership skills, to develop a deep understanding of the workings of our government, to strive for and assume leadership roles, and to recognize how their involvement can make a difference in their own communities.

We hope that your locally selected girls will walk away from the week with a greater appreciation of our great nation and an understanding of how she can make a difference in her school and community.

Help the Girls State Program - Be a Sponsoring Unit

Each Unit can sponsor as many delegates as they like.  Units can participate by recruiting delegates and/or providing financial scholarships for delegates.  A Unit does not have to be able to do both.  We recognize that many Units have limited resources, so we want to capitalize on your strengths.  We are happy to help you with ideas for fundraising, opportunities to sponsor citizens from other posts, and connections to other units who may be able to partner with you. Let us know what you need to be successful!

Sponsoring Unit Packet
In January of each year, a Girls State Unit Packet is sent to the registered Unit Girls State Chairman (or President if no Chairman is on record).  Please let us know if you need any additional material sent to you. Click here for all of the information that was sent in the packet.

Marketing the Program
There are many ways to get the word out about the Girls State Program.  Click here for ideas and sample documents.

We would also be happy to supply you with brochures or host an informational meeting at your school.  We are anxious to help in whatever way we can.
