Eligibility:

§  Be a female resident of the state of Oregon
§  Show respect for and be willing to salute the American Flag
§  Have completed the junior year in high school with at least one semester of high school remaining; if home schooled, be at least 15 years of age and have completed the 11th grade year 

 
Girls State participant selection is also based on leadership, character, and interest in community and government.

Cost
Girls State costs a total of $340 for the week.  Registration includes room and meals for 7 days and 6 nights, materials and a souvenir bag.
 
Scholarships are available for partial and full registration fees.

Benefits of attending
In addition to the wonderful experience and skills you will gain as a Girls State participant, you also have the opportunity for college scholarships and college credit.

Applications for college credit and college scholarships must be completed prior to the week of Girls State.  Please review this information to ensure you get all necessary material compiled and submitted. 

§  Samsung Scholarship - Participants of Girls State have the exclusive opportunity to apply for a  $20,000 scholarship  offered by the Samsung Corporation to one student nationwide.  One student from Oregon Girls State will be awarded a $1000 scholarship and chosen as Oregon’s representative in the national contest. Download the Samsung Scholarship application here.  Please note application deadline is June 20, 2009.  You must submit a complete application at onsite registration check-in. §  College Credit – Participants of Girls State can apply for college credit for their participation in the program. Credits are transferrable to most colleges and universities. For the application and more information click here.
