How to apply

Student Eligibility:

§  Be a female resident of the state of Oregon
§  Show respect for and be willing to salute the American Flag
§  Have completed the junior year in high school with at least one semester of high school remaining; if home schooled, be at least 15 years of age and have completed the 11th grade year 


Girls State participant selection is also based on leadership, scholarship, character, and interest in community and government.


Cost
Girls State cost a total of $340 for the week.  Registration includes room and meals for 7 days and 6 nights, materials and a souvenir bag.
 
Scholarships are available for partial and full registration fee.  

 
How to Apply
Local American Legion Auxiliary Units are the primary registrars for Oregon Girls State.  Where possible, the Unit Girls State Chairman will facilitate the registration of delegates.  


Step 1: Complete your application

If an Auxiliary Unit is serving your school, the registration process is as follows:
Find a local Unit in your area.
  • Interested girls should contact their local Unit for an application. Complete the Application including:
    • Applicant signature
    • Parent/Guardian signature
    • School certification of attendance
  • Submit your completed application to the local Unit representative.
If no Auxiliary Unit is serving your school, the registration process is as follows:
  • Interested girls may complete the Application including:
    • Applicant signature
    • Parent/Guardian signature
    • School certification of attendance

  • Submit your completed application to the Girls State Commission; email your completed application to Sondra Lino, Director at sondral@centurytel.net
 
Step 2: Interview
  • The applicant will be contacted by the Unit Representative or a Girls State Commission member for an interview.
 
Step 3: Registration
  • If selected as a delegate, she will be sent registration materials
  • Registration Form and applicable fees are submitted to the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Oregon headquarters
Step 4: Locally hosted Orientation
  • Prior to the session, participant orientations are held throughout the state.
