Oregon Girls State
Welcome to Oregon Girls State, a leadership and citizenship training program unlike any other. Oregon Girls State is a program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Oregon for girls who have completed their junior years of high school and have not yet begun their senior years. Girls State, which was created in 1938 as a complement to the American Legion’s Boys State program, was first held in Oregon in 1940 and has been a preeminent youth leadership experience ever since. The program gives young women an opportunity to experience state government in a hands-on, interactive environment. Citizens, as they are known during the week, travel to Willamette University’s beautiful Salem campus for a week of political and leadership training, team-building, and mentorship.
